A collaborative approach to therapy

Dana Perlson, LCSW

Child, Adolescent, and Adult therapist in Chicago, IL

People have many of their own answers, they just need the dedicated time and space to process and explore. I assist my clients in understanding and overcoming the challenges that they face day to day. Through a collaborative therapeutic relationship, I guide clients in honoring their needs and accomplishing their goals.

Therapy can be a powerful tool in one’s mental health toolbox. My goal in therapy is for clients to feel empowered to use ALL of their tools including social support, health care, boundary-setting, well-managed medication, joyful movement, and effective communication.

About me…

I am a licensed clinical social worker with years of experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings both for both groups and individuals. I also have extensive experience working with neurodiverse individuals including those with Autism, ADHD, and intellectual disabilities.

I utilize an array of approaches with my clients in order to provide the most tailored care possible. These approaches include Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness. All of my work is trauma-informed and client-focused.

As a certified yoga teacher, I understand that mindfulness, yoga, and meditation can feel intimidating or strange. I incorporate mindfulness approaches in treatment in a way that feels natural and approachable— no yoga mat required!

When I’m not working, you’ll find me hiking, on my yoga mat, or sipping coffee!

Therapy— What to expect

DWP Counseling is currently accepting new clients in the state of Illinois via telehealth and in-person at 1700 W. Irving Park Rd Chicago, IL 60613. Reach out for more information!

  1. Intake— the first two sessions are spent getting to know each other and identifying what you’d like to work on. This could be a specific goal like decreasing anxiety at work, or a more general goal to establish a therapeutic space for processing whatever life throws at you.

  2. Treatment planning— this is when we identify specific goals and make a plan to achieve them!

  3. Collaborate— therapy is an ongoing collaboration between me and my clients. I also collaborate with parents, teachers, physicians, and more when appropriate and with client consent in order to provide well-rounded care!

Insurance

DWP Counseling is an in-network provider for BlueCross BlueShield PPO. For those who prefer to pay out of pocket, I accept payment via credit card and Zelle.

While I may not be an in-network provider with your specific insurance plans, many insurance companies provide out-of-network benefits. I provide clients with the necessary paperwork required by their insurance companies in order to receive reimbursement for our sessions.
